Microsoft Dynamics Business Central continues to impress even the most vocal skeptics.  The new release of Dynamics 365 Business Central is due out in October 2018.   With the new release also comes a clearer naming convention.  With the October 18 release, Dynamics NAV transitions to Dynamics 365 Business Central on-premise.  Since Dynamics NAV and Dynamics 365 Business Central share the same code base, the change for NAV customers should be a fairly painless upgrade which will provide the end user with the much improved user experience of Business Central.

Microsoft clearly states in their release notes that they will continue to invest heavily in the intelligent cloud and that customers using on-premise solution, like Dynamics GP and Dynamics SL, can now leverage.  By connecting your on-premise Dynamics GP or SL to the intelligent cloud through Dynamics 365 Business Central, and get access to Power BI, Microsoft Flow, PowerApps, machine learning and much more. “With the October ’18 release of Business Central, we’re bringing the intelligent edge to several of our Dynamics SMB products.”  Dynamics GP & Dynamics SL will continue to receive product improvements and updates, including value added through the intelligent cloud.  This is awesome news and a clear direction for the hundreds of thousand Dynamics GP & SL users.

In case you are not familiar with Microsoft Power BI, Power BI is a “business analytics solution that lets you visualize your data and share insights across your organizations,” as defined on the Microsoft Power BI website.  Microsoft continues to invest in Power BI and it truly is a solution that the more you use the more ways to use it you uncover.  Both Microsoft Dynamics GP and SL have Power BI connectors and there are standard BI dashboards available today and Microsoft and partners, like SSi Consulting and Menlo-Technologies, continue to add to the library.

With Dynamics 365 Business Central, Power BI is an embed experience which includes an automatic deployment of BI reports, default report selection, and the ability to manage Power BI reports without ever requiring you to leave Business Central.

Love your Dynamics GP or Dynamics SL, no need to rush out and change.  But when you are ready and a move to the intelligent cloud makes sense for your business, know your options and give me a call.
